What does RDA means?
RDA stands for Registered Dental Assistant.
Why should I become an RDA?
There are 3 fantastic reasons for becoming an RDA.
1) Great pay and benefits. Most dental offices/clinics offer:
• PTO (Paid Time Off) or Sick pay
• Paid Holidays
• Paid Vacations
• Medical
• Dental
• Vision
• 401 K Retirement Plan
• Monthly bonuses (Cash or Prizes)
According to Payscale.com these are the average pay per hour and anual salary of an RDA in San Antonio, Texas.
See charts below:
2) Better Hours And A More Stable Schedule.
Most dental clinics work office hours. You’ll generally start your day at 9 AM and leave at 5 PM. Some start seeing patients as early as 7 AM and all employees are out by 3 PM. Isn’t that awesome?! It sure is.
Some clinics are even closed during the weekend. And some even close Friday—Sunday!
You’ll never work on weekends again nor will you have to double shift.
If you’re a single mom and don’t want to spend extra on child care know that some dental clinics even provide you with child care assistant. (Note, this is a screenshot from a post found on Craigslist. This clinic even offers Child care assistance as one of their benefits).
See chart below:
3) You'll Always Have A Job
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the job outlook for dental assistants is growing 7% faster than average! That’s a secure job and new opportunities for a decade (2019—2029).
See chart below:
That menas that the demand for dental assistants will only keep increasing. Also once you get your RDA license you’ll be able to work at any dental office in the state of Texas and the experience you gain will always follow you wherever you go. So if a clinic pays you $18/hr in San Antonio but let’s say you have to move to Austin therefore you can even command a higher pay due to the experience and knowledge you’ve acquired through the years. Knowing this you can ask to be paid $20/hr ~ 23/hr. And this type of pay per hour authority is something you don’t get with regular jobs (restaurant, retail, customer service, etc).
